Granny Panties

Posted by: knitinut on: June 19, 2009

OK. it wasn’t the most visually appealing name to invent for a friend’s grandma name, but admittedly it’s unusual, snappy, and cute! Just like the Grandma to be. Here’s my childraising wisdom. I have none. NONE. If an infant cries pick it up. Babies are helpless for a great deal of their first year, and they become more resiliant humans according to the recent research. But really isn’t that common sense? Infants don’t cry to piss you off. There is a reason. Perhaps they need to be cuddled. Deal. Find a good carrier, arms have worked for years and just tote the little munchkin around the house.

Second piece of useless information. Look shocked here. At some point in most (not all,you lucky heifers) mothers lives, you will understand why mothers and fathers shake their babies. Try staying up 3 days and nights in a row with a colicky baby who will not stop crying no matter what you do and you may understand, or you may not. This is not to say you would ever EVER shake your own child, just that you may actually understand why someone else snapped. A little help goes a long way. Your hormones are screaming right along with the baby, your exhausted and if you are breast feeding your boobs hurt for a few minutes, or weeks. Don’t be quiet about needing help. Call anyone!!!!

No one else on the planet, except for a few exceptionally tuned in fathers, is ever going to know and understand your baby better than you do. If you sense there is a problem, seek assistance from someone qualified to diagnose the problem. If they think you are a nut, move on and find someone who understands that when you spend every minute of every day doing anything it makes YOU the expert.

OK. I had a little advise. Sorry about that. Go with your instincts, don’t overthink this whole thing, and remember, it hasn’t been that many years since 12 year olds were the perfect age to bear and raise children. It is a very new concept to wait until you are in your 20′s and even that is becoming the “new” “young mother”. HA – those are the smart ones who will have their lives back in their forties, when they can still enjoy it!!!!

Look who’s laughing now!
A very happy Grandma, blessed with three of the most beautiful babygrands in existence.

Thanks to my lovely daughters for their precious gifts to the world!

And love to my daughters who are perfect children. Yes I am prejudiced!

Grandmas walk a tighwire between being overbearing (to our children), and overspoiling to our sweet and precious little cupycake dolly facey babies, who incidentally can do no wrong in our eyes.  This is the God’s honest truth!!!  Let me hear an amen!!!  Bill and I have girls, who have girls, so the estrogen levels are absolutely amazing!  It was such a relief when Lyss married Jeff.   A little testosterone for Bill to bond with!

We had a great weekend!  Went out to lunch Saturday with Jeff and Lyss and Charlee to celebrate Bill’s birthday.  We went to Dominic’s Italian Restaurant.  The food was lovely, especially the garlic bread – you would have died and thought you landed at the pearly gates!  Nice atmosphere, and great people run the restaurant.  They will serve you individually, or family style, and it is as close to traditional home cooked Italian fare as you will get outside a visit to your Nana’s.  It would have been more perfect if the rest of the family was with us, but we will have to arrange for that sometime soon.

Politics

Jeez,  I like to stay up to date on the latest nasty back and forth between the GOP and the Dems, but this year has taken trash to a new level.  I really detest US media.  It is absolutely biased and nasty press. I really resent the commentary by the US media.  Their job is to report, REPORT, the news, not make it, and not cover it up, and certainly not to bias it in any way.  This is definitely the year that journalism, true journalism bought it in our country, and I am disheartened.  I admit, I do like Sarah Palin.  I am a big fan of personal responsibility, and a huge fan of a free market and a free society.  It is really depressing me to see young people buy into the nonsensical idea that “free health-care” can be provided to everyone.  (And Bill and I were on National Health in England, so yes I do know of what I speak).  I like a woman who can tell the politicos that if Alaska wants a bridge they will build it themselves, without pork pie spending.  I feel as though the young people in this country do not want to take the time to think about the direction the country is headed.  Guess what, our kids should know better than any generation that nuclear power is a safe and viable source of energy.  They should also have the sense to put 2 and 2 together and really answer in their own hearts the question of big government.  Social Security is bankrupt.  Medicare and Medicaid are failing.  Our school systems, and our teachers unions are UN-educating our children.   Check out Finland’s initiatives in schools.  Guess what, they teach their children BETTER than we do, and with less money.  Do you really think National health-care will be a rousing success?  Baby boomers – would you like to wait 6 weeks or more for an MRI, or better yet be told that you are too old to bother with?  Simple surgeries in this country like heart catheterizations are done as routinely as teeth cleanings.  Check out British teeth on the telly sometime.  They can not afford to do routine maintenance on their bodies in England.  OK, those who know and like me (tolerate) know I am not a Republican.  I am an Independent, and I want the facts reported in the US instead of the bullshit we are currently calling the news.  Come on my kidlets, nieces and nephews, and the up and coming generation.  It is really past time to accept the word of the Michael Moores, and the Charles Gibsons, and the Katie Courics.  Do you ever hear Obama being asked the tough questions?  Are you even aware that he is in favor of killing babies who survive a live birth abortion?  I am a huge fan of the right to choose, but even I pale at that one.   Read.  Educate yourselves.  Don’t take Michael Moore’s films as the Word of God, look into the information he spews, double check his sources.  Guess what – I don’t know anyone who would go to Cuba and use their National Health for even a colonoscopy.  We have been a blessed Nation for many many years, and will continue to be if we do not eat the pablum we are being fed, but reach out for the truth.  It’s a big world out there, and we are really lucky!!!
